A former member of a secretive religious community is found dead in a motel outside the city, and the police are quick to treat it as suicide. But when Rachel Kim receives a package of old photographs, handwritten rules, and a single sentence — “They are still taking girls” — she begins investigating a group that disappeared from public scrutiny years ago.
The group calls itself The Family of the Open Door, a rural faith-based community that presents itself as a wholesome retreat for broken families, addicts, and lost teenagers.
