Young naval officer Paul Dexter has been lying low following his last seaborne adventure on a period of self-imposed half pay.
As the Admiralty have shown their displeasure at his recent behaviour he is attempting to write a satirical novel as a new way to earn his keep. Thankfully old friend ‘Mack’ Sennett is on hand with a heavy dose of common sense to guide him back to Navy life.

As Helpful steams off for Scottish waters and then the Baltic with a submarine fleet in tow Dexter is joined by some familiar faces to help smooth the way.
